As believers we are united with Christ and because the Lord Jesus broke the power of sin and death and hell when He rose from the dead – the strength of sin in our lives has also been broken and we have been raised-up, into newness of life, in Him. 13. take . Depending on the translation of Ephesians 6:14, we are to fasten the belt of truth around us (ISV), buckle the belt around our waists (NIV), gird our waists with truth (NKJV), or gird our loins with truth (NASB). The best and most eminent ministers need the prayers of believers. Ephesians chapter 6 is one of the most thorough treatments of the spiritual war in the New Testament, it is but one of many texts which sheds light on this subject. Paul makes no mention of demoniacal possession, so that in the time he wrote, it seems to have ceased; it probably was restricted to the period of the Lord's incarnation, and of the foundation of His Church. This meaning in usage often vanishes, or at least retires, as where in O. T. a deliverance by mere force is called a redemption (Exodus 6:6, &c.). So in the temple a perpetual watch was maintained (compare Anna, Luke 2:37 ). In Romans 13:14 it is, "Put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ"; in putting on Him, and the new man in Him, we put on "the whole armor of God." doing the will of God--the unseen but ever present Master: the best guarantee for your serving faithfully your earthly master alike when present and when absent. in high places--Greek, "heavenly places": in Ephesians 2:2 , "the air," heavenly places," is in order to mark the higher range of their powers than ours, they having been, up to the ascension ( Revelation 12:5 Revelation 12:9 Revelation 12:10 ), dwellers "in the heavenly places" ( Job 1:7 ), and being now in the regions of the air which are called the heavens. . What does Ephesians 6:6 mean? 21. that ye also--as I have been discussing things relating to you, so that ye also may know about me (compare Colossians 4:7 Colossians 4:8 ). Stand--The repetition in Ephesians 6:11 Ephesians 6:14 , shows that standing, that is, maintaining our ground, not yielding or fleeing, is the grand aim of the Christian soldier. We must resolve by God's grace, not to yield to Satan. The head is the seat of the mind, which, when it has laid hold of the sure Gospel "hope" of eternal life, will not receive false doctrine, or give way to Satan's temptations to despair. The differences of opinion among real Christians are comparatively small, and show that they are not following one another like silly sheep, each trusting the one before him. Be not impatient; use no unreasonable severities. in sincerity--Greek, "in incorruption," that is, not as English Version, but "with an immortal (constant) love" [WAHL]. Faithfulness (Septuagint, "truth") is the girdle of Messiah ( Isaiah 11:5 ): so truth of His followers. That obedience includes inward reverence, as well as outward acts, and in every age prosperity has attended those distinguished for obedience to parents. Love regulates the duties both of servants and masters, as one and the same light attempers various colors. Believers have once for all overcome him; but on the ground of this fundamental victory gained over him, they are ever again to fight against and overcome him, even as they who once die with Christ have continually to mortify their members upon earth ( Romans 6:2-14 Colossians 3:3 Colossians 3:5 ). The duty of servants is summed up in one word, obedience.
